About us

MISSION & HISTORY.

Our Mission

Our Mission At Teach-to-Heal, our mission is to empower communities through education and health initiatives. We provide essential resources and skills that promote health, learning, and empowerment, helping children and their communities thrive.

Our History

Teach-to-Heal began as a heartfelt initiative during our founder's (Izzie) university placement in Ghana. Izzie spent six weeks in a hospital and an additional week helping with wound care in the village. The initial fundraiser supported the first trip back after this, and since then, the initiative has grown significantly.

Our two-week research and testing trip was a great success, teaching over 165 children and adults in the community. Our program is structured into four classes:

  1. Wound Care – Teaching safe wound dressing techniques.

  2. Infection and Sepsis – Recognising signs and preventing infections, and using machines to measure vitals so that they can avoid hospital and clinic fees.

  3. CPR and Recovery – Learning life-saving techniques.

  4. Choking – Performing the Heimlich maneuver.

Upon completing these classes and the educational booklet, participants receive their own wound care box and a certificate, empowering them to care for themselves and their families.

In the past few months, we've partnered with Humpat School, based in Busua, Ghana, and made significant improvements, including installing ceiling fans, a major upgrade. Many classrooms previously had no fans, and now all rooms are much more comfortable. We’ve also provided chairs, textbooks, toys, and other essential supplies, creating a more conducive learning environment.

We use this partnership to offer classes to the wider community after school finishes, ensuring that the program benefits not just children at that school but also other children and adults.

Additionally, some of the funds raised have been used to support the education of one of the boys in the community, ensuring he can continue his schooling.

As we continue to grow, we’re excited to expand our reach to different countries in the future. For now, our focus is on building a classroom and nursery in Humpat and building connections with other organisations in the community to teach our classes to foster empowerment and self-reliance.
